Yes, we all know what I'm talking about.....It's everywhere!
I had a moment in thought yesterday. Yesterday, I took my Dear friend Matthew down to the Hollings Cancer Center for his Chemo treatment. He is fighting a rare type of Cancer, High Grade Round cell Liposarcoma, And he is GOING TO WIN!! He is on a new regimen of chemo, as this is out patient now, and he is much more excited(if you can be excited about getting toxins pumped into your body) about going for this treatment, than the 4 day 24 hr-Hospital stay-Chemo he was having before.
Anyway, as we went in, he had his port accessed, then we went and met with the doctor, then he was to be getting hooked up for his infusion. As we were sitting waiting on the doctor to come in, He turned and said to me, "You know Les, I need to talk to it more.....I used to talk to it, and I haven't been and I need to start again." My first thought, is what are you talking about??? Then he confirmed to me, by saying, and jesturing(with his middle finger) at his leg and stomach, where the tumors are..."I'm going to kick your @ss, you will not win this!!" I couldn't help but just smile and laugh. He has to have one of the most amazing attitudes in the world! Life has handed him a dose of lemons and he is making lemonade with every ounce of strength he has!! I LOVE HIM!!
We then sat in the room waiting on them to hook up his weekly dose, and I looked around. It is a room full of recliners and everyone there is receiving their treatment.
A couple thoughts went through my mind....but mostly, I was noticing attitudes/emotions. There was a mix for sure. Some slept, some looked out the window to the beautiful courtyard below, some watched a movie, some read, some were talking with their friends, and Matt and I played a mean game of Rummy(sp).
I sat and just wondered what everyone was thinking? Do they all have Matt's attitude? What kind of Cancer do they have? How long have they been fighting this? Do they have faith? Do they know Our God is in control? Does it hurt? When are we going to find a cure for this Disease? What can I do to help and make a difference?
I sit here today, and I have received a call that my sweet friend's mother is losing her battle against this awful thing!! It sux! I lost my aunt and my grandmother to this! When is it going to stop? I'm sick of you, Cancer, you WILL go away!!! God, I know you are teaching us some kind of lesson here, but I still can't help but question, WHY?
I will leave you on this note........We WILL beat this, We WILL find a cure, and We WILL learn from our experiences. In the meantime......We will Love!!
